Liam Heyes

Liam Heyes is one of the more consistent technical punters we’ve evaluated in the 2028 class. His operation starts with his hands. Heyes has an excellent mold on the football and does a great job getting the ball set quickly without creating unnecessary movement. His drop is quick, steady, and repeatable, allowing his foot to consistently meet the football in the proper position. The result is a punter who can turn the football over again and again. His mechanics remain controlled from rep to rep, and he rarely needs to chase the football during his operation. That repeatability gives him a strong floor as a prospect and should translate well as the speed and pressure of the game increase at the next level. Heyes currently produces punts in the 40-44 yard range with approximately 4.2-4.5 seconds of hang time. Those are quality numbers for a developing 2028 prospect, particularly when paired with how consistently he’s able to reproduce his ball. The next stage of his development will come physically. Adding quality mass and committing to the weight room should help increase the force behind an already efficient operation. He doesn’t need to completely rebuild his technique to take the next step—the goal is to add more power to the technical foundation that’s already there. Plenty of young punters can hit one impressive ball during a workout; Heyes separates himself by repeatedly producing clean turnover with essentially the same operation. That’s a valuable trait at a position where dependability matters just as much as raw leg strength. Now the focus becomes physical development. If Heyes can add strength and healthy weight while preserving the quick hands, clean drop, and repeatable mechanics that already define his game, we believe his distance and hang time can increase considerably. With dedicated development in the weight room, Heyes has the ability to push himself into the Top 15 punters nationally in the 2028 class. The technical foundation is already there. Adding more horsepower behind it could turn him into a very interesting college punting prospect over the next two seasons.
